Last month, Executive VP Scott Guthrie shared Microsoft’s strategy for digital transformation and unveiled the new Microsoft Dynamics 365 business applications. An impressive pitch for the suite!

So what is Dynamics 365 exactly? “[Dynamics 365 is] our new cloud service with purpose-built apps that enable you to address specific business needs (like sales automation, operations or customer service) and start small with the assurance that the solution can grow as your needs do. Powered by advanced analytics and machine learning – what we call Intelligence – Dynamics 365 will usher in a new era of business agility for you, our customers.”, explains Takeshi Numoto – Corporate Vice President, Microsoft Cloud + Enterprise – in this blog post.

Digital transformation accelerator

Microsoft Dynamics 365 is the company’s most meaningful shift on business applications. With this global launch, Microsoft is reinforcing their “cloud-first, mobile-first” approach to the future of technology and digital transformation. Since 1st November, they are offering a single product to meet the many needs of customers – and dressing it with an increasing focus on “AI-first”.

I believe this is a big deal. When taking over as Microsoft’s CEO, Satya Nadella shared his vision to turn the world of business processes and productivity on its head. This was to help organisations across the world to fully embrace digitisation. With Dynamics 365, Microsoft offers companies a solution that can accommodate every industry, business or even tasks performed by each person, depending on their role. A mighty tool that will empower companies to accelerate their digital transformation.

Dynamics 365 is a blend of Microsoft Dynamics CRM and the organisation’s ERP capabilities, integrated into one cloud platform and data model. With the “start with what you need” principle, the new suite will help businesses fulfill the evolving needs of their customers and capture new opportunities by better engaging customers, empowering employees, optimising operations and transforming products.

The deep integration with Office 365, Power BI, Cortana Intelligence and Azure Machine Learning will help businesses and their employees turn big data into actionable plans. And on top of this new cloud platform, you have access to Microsoft AppSource, their online app store, for more specific apps (for back-office functions).

Connected business applications

From the demos I have seen so far, Dynamics 365 stands out as an impressive enabler that will push businesses to re-evaluate what is achievable for them.

The game changer here is the level of flexibility provided. Dynamics 365 is removing the fences between critical business platforms, data and processes. And it is connecting business applications to empower you to make smarter decisions faster. But above all, you can tailor the required solution to your needs, and at your own pace.

And apparently, we should expect much more developments that will further enhance the suite. In his blog, Takeshi Numoto shares Microsoft’s ambition for Dynamics 365: “Designed to help improve manufacturing and supply chain execution, make field service operations more efficient, sell more effectively and ultimately deliver exceptional customer experiences, built-in intelligence capabilities are infused throughout Dynamics 365 apps including: sentiment and intent analysis, pre-emptive service, relationship insights, lead and opportunity scoring, product recommendations and up-sell/cross-sell, and many more.

These are exciting times for Microsoft, but also for Codec-dss – and I look forward to sharing the vision with our customers.
