Oracle Data Integrator
What is Oracle Data Integrator?
ODI can either be installed as a component or plug-in of the Oracle Fusions Middleware application server (in this instance Hyperion Planning) or installed as a separate tool sitting on top of (usually but not necessarily) Oracle database engine.
Data integration technology gives you a common, consistent way to link, transform and manage many types of information so that you can obtain a complete picture of your business for procedures such as planning, forecasting and budgeting. It is the foundation for many IT initiatives including cloud computing, modernisation and big data analytics.
What does Oracle Data Integrator provide to the end user?
Whether you need real-time and bulk data integration or movement, data transformation, bidirectional replication, data services, big data integration, data virtualisation or data quality; Oracle Data Integrator holds the answers. Oracle has constructed a layered suite of technology that delivers pervasive and continuous access to timely and trusted data across heterogeneous systems.
- The main purpose of ODI is to deliver the ETL functionality.
ETL = Extract – Transform – Load.
The main purpose of the tool is to copy structured data from point A to point B, with optional transformations in between. The most common (and natural) scenario of using ODI would be to pump data between layers of an Enterprise Data Warehouse solution.
- It can also be used for Data Quality checks. It allows for intercepting and actioning DQ related issues.
- It supports many scripting languages (Jython, JavaBeanShell, JS and many more) and so is easily extensible.
- The most unique feature is probably the Substitution API which allows for building universal knowledge modules that can be used across many (differently structured) sources and targets.
ODI can be integrated with all of the Oracle Fusion Middleware servers, including OBIEE, Hyperion Essbase, Oracle Hyperion Financial Management, Oracle Hyperion Planning; enhancing Planning, Budgeting and Forecasting processes within an organisation.
