The Lord Mayor, Oisin Quinn presented Codec at the Mansion House, Dublin with Dublin City’s first EcoMerit environmental certification following approval recently by a steering committee comprising the Environmental Protection Agency, Local Authorities and environmental consultancy, Econcertive.

The certificate is valid for 3 years subject to successful annual surveillance and Codec’s adherence to the EcoMerit programme requirements – one of which is a commitment to continuous improvement.

As well as becoming more eco-friendly, Codec anticipate making a 20-25% reduction in electricity usage by saving up to €2,000 per annum. Codec’s environmental improvement plans include:

  • Upgrading lights with LED alternatives
  • Fitting timers to water coolers
  • Implementing a waste prevention programme to reduce waste and increase recycling rates
  • Implementing policy of switching off computers and electrical equipment to prevent electricity leakage
  • Using e-mail for communication and invoicing instead of postage

Mark Bennett, Economic Development Officer with Dublin City Council commented “It’s a great achievement for Codec to receive Dublin City Council’s very first EcoMerit Certification.  The award demonstrates their commitment to becoming more eco-friendly and portrays them as a company committed to green IT with the added benefit of making them sustainable savings.”

Jenny Maher, Corporate Account Manager, accepting the award on behalf of Codec said “we are delighted to have achieved this award as it represents our efforts to become best in class in all aspects of our business. We are very focused on our environmental policies and we believe it is important our customers see that we are a company committed to green IT. We are honored to have been chosen as the first ever recipient in Dublin City of this prestigious award.”
