Codec supports International Women’s Day 2018
On the morning of 8th March, Codec brought together a diverse of group speakers, their customers and staff to the RDS, Dublin to commemorate International Women’s Day 2018.
Hosted by Fiona Daly, Director of Legal and Finance, speakers included some of Ireland’s most respected female leaders, who work across the political, fashion and technology sectors. The theme of this year’s International Women’s Day was #PressforProgress and each of the esteemed speakers gave valuable insight into their incredibly successful careers.
The inspirational panel, which comprised of Aisling Curtis, Commercial Director, Microsoft, Sonya Lennon, Fashion Stylist, Broadcaster, Designer and Founder of Dress for Success Dublin, Senator Joan Freeman, Founder and Former CEO, Pieta House and Author and Broadcaster Andrea Hayes spoke about their journey at work and beyond, sharing insights from their professional and personal experiences.
Codec are an Irish technology company headquartered in Dublin with offices, in Cologne, Warsaw, Belfast, Cork and Galway. Whilst traditionally a male dominated sector, in recent years, Codec have found more job applications starting to come through from females – more than it has seen in its 33-year history – especially from recent college graduates.
On the day of the event Fiona Daly highlighted the role women have played in the success of Codec, a company that has doubled in size over the past 3 years. A number of senior roles in the company are held by women for example, a legacy no doubt left by its cofounder Carol Black, now retired, who was also there to join in the celebrations on the day.
Codec have observed that the proportion of female job applications has risen over the past number of years. However anecdotally it is not technology roles that Codec sees few job applications from women, this would be for sales roles. The company has two open sales positions at the moment, for which they have yet to receive applications from women.
International Women’s Day is celebrated annually on 8th of March to recognise women’s achievements throughout history and across nations. This is the second year Codec has held an International Women’s Day event. Speaking at the event, Codec’s Director of Legal and Finance Fiona Daly said “Codec are extremely proud to celebrate International Women’s Day with our partners, friends and colleagues”.
“International Women’s Day encourages us all to reflect on the importance of equality, to celebrate the successes of women. I’m proud to say that we are proactively working to make Codec a more inclusive and diverse workplace” said Fiona Daly. Codec have recently introduced flexible working arrangements for all staff which allows employees to make arrangements about working conditions that suit them – to help maintain a work/life integration. This is a growing concern for all workers and one of the topics addressed at the event.
